Love and other words by Christina Lauren is a great book about the relationship between Macy and Elliot. Macy is the narrator of the book with each chapter written switching between the past and present. Filling you in on their past as the story goes on. Elliot and Macy met when Macy and her father got a weekend house next to Elliot’s. After meeting the first time Macy went to the house they became inseparable. By their senior year of highschool they started dating only for it to end badly. After over a decade of not seeing each other Elliot and Macy run into each other at a coffee shop causing them to remember the past, and discuss their past relationship.
Throughout this book each chapter switches between past and present. This is very interesting because, as a reader, you get to learn what happened in the past as the characters discuss it together. We get to see what caused them to drift apart as we see them grow closer again. This is really cool to have as a reader as there is suspension and mystery, two factors that make this book even more interesting.
The one downside to this is that sometimes you want to skip chapters. You are more interested in their past or what their new relationship as friends is like. The book was written really well but some chapters feel like they should continue talking about the past or the present rather than switching between the two. Though this book was really good, I remember thinking a few times that I wanted to skip chapters to continue reading about the past or present.
Overall Love and Other Words by New York Times Bestselling author Christina Lauren is a great book with suspense and mystery causing you to read non-stop. With a writing style of switching between past and present that makes the book more engaging and entertaining. I would recommend this book to anyone who like romance stories, as this is definitely a great one.

I find the switching between past and present to be super interesting when reading a book, though I think it could go wrong if not done properly. Great review Cate!
